We re‑price Texas electricity plans from the source documents, and publish the arithmetic.

What we do

Electricity plans in Texas are advertised with an average price at one usage level. Change the usage and the ranking changes completely, because bill credits, free‑hour windows and monthly fees all behave differently at different volumes. We take each plan's Electricity Facts Label — the document the retailer is legally held to — and the delivery tariff the Public Utility Commission publishes, and work out what a plan costs across the whole usage range instead of at one flattering point.

Where the numbers come from

We re‑read the PUCT's delivery charges daily rather than retyping them, because a stale delivery rate quietly corrupts every plan comparison built on top of it. Every figure on this site carries the date it was captured.

What we are not

Watt Math is not a retail electric provider. We are not a PUCT‑licensed broker or aggregator. We do not sell electricity, we do not enroll customers, and we do not take your account details. We publish analysis and link out to where you can shop.

Which parts of Texas can actually switch

Not all of them. Deregulation covers most of the state, but Austin and San Antonio are not deregulated — Austin Energy and CPS Energy are municipal utilities, and their customers have no retailer to choose. The same is true of much of the co‑op territory. If you're served by one of those, no comparison site can help you, and any site that offers to is wasting your time.

We currently publish rate tables for Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth and Corpus Christi, covering the Oncor, CenterPoint and AEP Texas Central delivery areas.
